Mobile Meals of Southern Arizona

About Mobile Meals of Southern Arizona

Mobile Meals of Southern Arizona began in 1968 as a project of Meals on Wheels, when a grant was received to provide a more robust meal delivery service to older persons than what Meals on Wheels offered. We began providing special diet meals, and two meals daily, to meet this need, and continue to do so today.

In 1970, when the grant ended, a core group of volunteers including those from the Pima County Medical Society Auxiliary, wanted to continue this service. And that’s when Mobile Meals of Tucson was born.

Throughout the years, we have held true to our promise to provide healthy, nutritious meals for people who need them. Every day, Monday through Friday, our brigade of caring volunteers has delivered lunch and dinner, with love, for people who are unable to drive, shop, or cook their own meals. Our clients have always included older persons, people living with disabilities, people facing tough medical conditions, and people facing end of life issues.

We became Mobile Meals of Southern Arizona in 2017, to better reflect our geographic service area and the Board’s vision for growth in the decades to come.

Today, more than half of those serve require special diets, and we now offer three great meal service options to meet clients’ needs. We serve people of all income levels and offer reduced-cost options for people whose income meets our established eligibility guidelines.

From the days of being chartered by caring volunteers who wanted to make a meaningful difference for people in Tucson, community support has always been vital to our service and success, and we are so very grateful for it. With a small staff of six, our team of more than 275 volunteers stand on the front lines of meal delivery service daily.

Together, with the financial support of donors, we deliver meals, provide comfort, and nourish friends, so that no matter what challenges a person is facing, food is one less worry to think about.

Join us in our mission, and let’s do even more.
