About Midwestern University Body Donation Program

The Midwestern University Body Donation Program plays a vital role in educating the next generation of compassionate, highly skilled healthcare professionals. Through this generous and selfless act, donors provide future physicians, pharmacists, dentists, physical therapists, and other healthcare practitioners with the opportunity to study human anatomy in the most meaningful way – through direct, hands-on experience.

Unlike models or digital simulations, the study of human cadavers fosters a profound and respectful connection to the intricacies of the human body. This immersive experience enhances students’ understanding of anatomical relationships and hones the diagnostic and procedural techniques they will use throughout their careers. It is an experience that cannot be replicated and one that profoundly shapes students’ professional and ethical development.

Following the completion of anatomical studies, cremated remains are returned to donor families in accordance with their expressed wishes. All remains are handled with the utmost dignity, care, and security. For those who choose, interment is offered in the
Midwestern University Ossuary Garden, located on the University’s Clinical Campus.

Since its establishment in 2022, the Ossuary Garden has been the site of an annual Celebration of Life – a heartfelt ceremony where students and faculty come together to honor donors and express their gratitude to the families. Body donation is a legacy of learning and healing. Through this powerful contribution, donors become lifelong teachers, inspiring the future of healthcare and advancing
human knowledge.
